About me

Hello, welcome to my shop.

I’m passionate about creating beautiful, handcrafted furniture – a journey that began over 20 years ago as a simple hobby and has grown into my full-time craft and business. From my small one-person shop in the peaceful Jura mountains near Aarau, Switzerland, I build each piece completely by hand, using traditional joinery techniques without screws wherever possible to ensure strength, longevity, and beauty.

I specialise in custom furniture design and fine woodworking, creating everything from Shoji lamps with Kumiko panels to elegant oak wall cabinets, benches, keepsake boxes, and unique wooden decor pieces. Each project starts with careful planning and design, often using SketchUp to model every detail precisely before cutting wood. This process ensures that your furniture not only looks beautiful but also functions perfectly in your home.

I would love to design and build a special piece of furniture just for you.  Please feel free to contact me anytime with your ideas and dreams – design discussions and project planning are always free, and I never charge anything until you are completely happy with the design and ready to begin building your unique piece.

Description

Japanese designer wooden shoji lamps are the perfect addition to your home. With their warm light and elegant lines, they set stylish accents and create an inviting atmosphere. Each shoji lamp is a special statement piece that enhances modern and classic spaces alike. Whether in the living room, bedroom, or office, a shoji lamp always creates a harmonious ambiance.

I handcrafted this shoji lamp from Swiss oak and maple. It has a kumiko surface on top. The sides are shoji panels. These panels are made of white, pink, or blue handmade Japanese awagami unryu paper.

Kumiko is a traditional Japanese technique that joins wooden pieces together without nails. It is often used in Japanese paper lamps.

The lamp comes with a 15W bulb with 85 lumens. Alternatively, there's a 25W bulb with 250 lumens. The bulb lasts for many hours. If you need to change the bulb, you can remove one of the shoji panels.

These lamps are handmade in my small workshop. They are not made in a factory, so the wood may have minor irregularities.
